Raleigh – The Republican nominees for lieutenant governor and state auditor, as well as the 13th Congressional District, have been determined following the North Carolina primary runoff election.
According to unofficial results released by the state Board of Elections, political strategist Hal Weatherman won the Republican nomination for state lieutenant governor with 74.4% of the vote, defeating Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neill, who garnered just 25.5% of the vote.
Weatherman will face Democratic Party nominee State Senator Rachel Hunt in the November election.
In the race for the Republican nomination for state auditor, current state Legislature budget aide Dave Boliek prevailed over attorney Jack Clark 53 to 49 percent.
Boliek will compete in November against Democrat Jessica Holmes, the current state auditor, and Libertarian candidate Bob Drach.
In the race for the 13th Congressional District Republican nomination, Brad Knott, a former federal prosecutor who ran unopposed after the abrupt withdrawal of Kelly Daughtry, who led in the first round of the primary, was confirmed as the winner with more than 90 percent of the vote.
Daughtry announced his retirement two weeks before the second round after he announced his retirement two weeks ago during the early voting period after Knott received the endorsement of Republican presidential hopeful, former President Donald Trump.
Knott will compete in November with Democratic nominee Frank Pierce, who will try to fill the seat being vacated by incumbent Democratic Rep. Wiley Nickel, who decided not to run for re-election after the state Legislature changed the map for his district.
District 13 now includes Caswell, Franklin, Harnett, Johnston, Lee and Person counties, plus portions of Granville and Wake counties.
Only voters registered as Republicans and those with no party affiliation or independents who did not vote in the March 5 primary or voted a Republican ballot participated in this primary runoff.
The state Board of Elections will certify the results ten days after the vote.
